Gilgal (hebreo: גִּלְגָּל, Gilgāl) proviene de la raíz hebrea galal, que significa “rodar”.
También se entiende frecuentemente que hace referencia a un “círculo” de piedras, ya que gilgal era un término utilizado para describir un círculo de piedras.
