Faithful Disciples (2 Timothy 2:1–9)
The Christian life is not about comfort or survival, but about making disciples, enduring hardship, and adoring Christ.
1. Faithful disciples train others (vv.1-2).
2. Faithful disciples toil through hardship (vv.3-7).
3. Faithful disciples treasure Jesus Christ (v.8-9).
1. Faithful disciples train others (vv.1-2).
Strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.
Acts 14:22
The task of the local church is not to preserve the truth, as in a museum; but to live it & to teach it to the generation to come.

2. Faithful disciples toil through hardship (vv.3-7).
By perseverance the snail reached the Ark.
Spurgeon
Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope…
Romans 5:3-4
Hast thou no scar?
No hidden scar on foot, or side, or hand?
I hear thee sung as mighty in the land,
I hear them hail thy bright ascendant star,
Hast thou no scar? Hast thou no wound?
Yet I was wounded by the archers, spent,
Leaned Me against a tree to die, and rent
by ravening beasts that encompassed Me, I swooned:
Hast thou no wound?
No wound, no scar?
Yet as the Master shall the servant be,
And, pierced are the feet that follow Me;
But thine are whole: can he have followed far
Who has no wound nor scar?

3. Faithful disciples treasure Jesus Christ (v.8)
Jesus: Savior
Christ: Israel’s Messiah
Offspring of David: Human
Risen from the Dead: God
No government, no religious authorities, no skeptics, no scientists, no philosophers, or no book burners have ever been able to stop the work of the Word of God. Yet, if there is any sense in which the Word is bound, it is bound when its supposed friends abandon it. When pulpits sound more like self-help books than those who proclaim God’s word; when Scripture is used sparingly like a spice in a message, instead of being the core of it, pastors themselves put a chain around the Bible.
David Guzik
And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
1 Corinthians 2:1-5
Sin is what you do when you are not satisfied in God.
John Piper
Continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it.
2 Timothy 3:14
O CHURCH ARISE
Oh church, arise and put your armor on
Hear the call of Christ our captain
For now the weak can say that they are strong
In the strength that God has given
With shield of faith and belt of truth
We’ll stand against the devil’s lies
An army bold whose battle cry is, love!
Reaching out to those in darkness
So Spirit, come, put strength in every stride
Give grace for every hurdle
That we may run with faith to win the prize
Of a servant good and faithful
As saints of old still line the way
Retelling triumphs of his grace
We hear their calls and hunger for the day
When, with Christ, we stand in glory
