Message Notes

I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve.
Jeremiah 17:10
Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.  Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.
Matthew 23:25-26
For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.
Ecclesiastes 12:14
Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Hebrews 4:13
“I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barnea to explore the land. And I brought him back a report according to my convictions, but my brothers who went up with me made the hearts of the people melt with fear. I, however, followed the Lord my God wholeheartedly.  So on that day Moses swore to me, ‘The land on which your feet have walked will be your inheritance and that of your children forever, because you have followed the Lord my God wholeheartedly.’”
Joshua 14:7-9
But now your kingdom will not endure; the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him leader of his people.
1 Samuel 13:14
The sins of the flesh are bad, but they are the least bad of all sins.  There are two things inside me: The Animal Self and the Diabolical Self.  The Diabolical Self is the worse of the two.
C.S. Lewis
As I boarded the plane, I remember feeling proud, not grateful, but proud. Lots of me, maybe even some preachers, might have yielded, lost track of time in the R-rated aisle, and missed their plane.  With satisfaction, I flipped open my book and began reading as we took off for Chicago.  I had entered the ring and knocked out my Animal Self.  That was good.  But I didn’t see my Diabolical Self sitting ringside grinning broadly.  At that moment, I was a ghost, feeding my soul on pride.
Larry Crabb,
Safest Place On Earth
Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men’s hearts.
1 Corinthians 4:5
Keep in mind that the value of a deed depends upon the attitude of the heart. We should notice in passing that a good motive does not mean that we enjoy doing a particular deed.
Erwin Lutzer,
Your Eternal Reward
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.  For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
Colossians 3:1-3
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.
Galatians 2:20
