Message Notes

Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them, saying: β€œBlessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
Matthew 5:1-4

Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore.Β Β Then he told them many things in parables…
Matthew 13:2-3

When he was alone, theΒ Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables.Β  He told them, β€œThe secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables.”
Mark 4:10-11

From that time on JesusΒ began to explain to his disciplesΒ that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
Matthew 16:21

About eight days after Jesus said this,Β he took Peter, John and James with himΒ and went up onto a mountain to pray.Β  As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning.Β  Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus. They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem.Β Β The disciples kept this to themselves, and told no one at that time what they had seen.
Luke 9:28-31,36

They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, β€œSit here while I pray.”  He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled.Β  β€œMy soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” he said to them. β€œStay here and keep watch.”
Mark 14:32-34

Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, β€œLord, who is going to betray you?”)Β  When Peter saw him, he asked, β€œLord,Β what about him?”  Jesus answered, β€œIf I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?”
John 21:20-22

After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified, β€œI tell you the truth, one of you is going to betray me.”  His disciples stared at one another, at a loss to know which of them he meant.Β  One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him.Β Β Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said, β€œAsk him which one he means.”  Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him, β€œLord, who is it?”
John 13:21-25

β€œYou are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, β€œand do you not understand these things?”
John 3:10

He told her, β€œGo, call your husband and come back.”  β€œI have no husband,” she replied.
John 4:16-17

When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, β€œZacchaeus, come down immediately.Β I must stay at your house today.”
Luke 19:5

When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, β€œSimon son of John,Β do you truly love me more than these?”
John 21:15
