Message Notes

What church do we want to be at 360?

The church either advances the Gospel through faithful service or hinders it through selfish ambition.

“The crowd rose to their feet, clapping and shouting as the prisoner was lowered into the boiling oil. John raised hishands up toward heaven, praying to God. Minutes passed. John continued to pray. The cheering of the crowd faded into awed silence…Then the whispering started: “The apostle is not harmed!” When John was miraculously delivered from the vat of boiling oil, the Emperor gave up trying to kill him. Instead, he banished John to the rocky island of Patmos.”

Walk in God’s truth (vv.1-4)

Truth unites.

Truth transforms.

Truth brings joy.

Am I allowing the essential truths of the gospel to unite me with other believers, or am I letting secondary differences create unnecessary division?

Is my love for fellow Christians evident in how I speak about them, serve them, and treat them, even when we disagree?

Is God’s Word changing the way I live, or am I content simply to know what the Bible says without putting it into practice?

Is there an area of my life where I know what is true but am refusing to obey what God has revealed?

Am I finding joy in the spiritual growth of others, or am I more concerned with my own comfort, success, and recognition?

Welcome strangers within (vv.5-6)

Hospitality (Philoxenia): love for stranger

Do we welcome strangers, or mainly spend time with people we already know?

Does our hospitality extend beyond Sunday services into our homes and daily lives?

Are we willing to be inconvenienced to care for others?

How intentionally do we support full-time ministry workers?

Would a visitor experience the love of Christ through our church’s hospitality?

Romans 15:5-7

May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.

Work alongside those without (vv.7-8)

The Goer

The Sender

The Mobilizer

The Intercessor

The Welcomer

Do we actively support those who have given their lives to the work of the gospel?

Are we using our resources to advance the gospel beyond our own church?

Do we recognize that supporting missionaries and ministers makes us partners in their ministry?

Are we giving sacrificially to gospel work, or only when it is convenient?

How can our church better support those who are serving Christ on the front lines?

No Reserve. No Retreat. No Regrets.
